Onceit Ethical Sourcing and Sustainability Statement
Our journey so Far
Onceit was launched in May 2010 with a staff of one and a dream to become a leading destination for online designer sales. Eleven years down the track we are a one-stop shop for more than 500 local and international brands that keep our customers on top of the latest styles and trends.
In 2017 we introduced "George Collective" a Onceit exclusive collection of premium Home Textiles and Furniture. We have been overwhelmed by our customers' support for the range and the feedback on the quality and value of the products.
With this success and as we look to expand further and into new categories, we are of course aware of our responsibility to the people who make our goods and the impact of our supply chain.
Next Steps
Although we are a small business on the world stage, Onceit is committed to spending time and resources to ensure that we meet acceptable ethical and sustainable values.
It is vital to us that we only work with factory owners and management who operate a culture of dignity and respect and we want to build meaningful relationships with key partners who can grow with us and are willing to embrace change and continuous improvement.
To deliver this we are initiating significant changes for 2022:
Ethical Sourcing Policy
We have updated our policy to better reflect our company values and ensure that we set clear expectations with new and existing factories. It defines standards from the very beginning and aims to ensure our suppliers provide fair, safe, and non-discriminatory workplaces that do not harm workers, the community, or the environment.
Important aspects include:
- Prohibition of child labour
- Freely chosen employment
- Freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining
- Satisfactory and safe working conditions
- Paid working hours which are not excessive
- Discrimination is not practiced
- Fair living wages are paid
- Regular employment is provided
- Environmental standards maintained to specified high standard

Factory Auditing Programme
We are thrilled to be partnering with Elevate, an industry leader in Ethical Auditing, Sustainability and Supply Chain Services and this will enable us to implement a targeted auditing programme with our core supply base.
Our goal is to regularly engage through face-to-face visits and deepen relationships with factory management to gain better understanding of the social contexts in which our products are made. These efforts reflect our on-going commitment to maintaining the high standards of our manufacturers and will ensure that we know exactly where our products are being made and that all locations comply with Onceit requirements and ethical values.
We do recognise that auditing alone does not drive change in working conditions and that there is a need to go beyond and support our suppliers to improve the social and environmental conditions. We will work hard to find ways to have a positive impact, and this will become part of the programme from 2023 onwards.
Sustainable Options
Ethical and Sustainable sourcing are closely linked and over the years we have been investigating how we can make our entire business more environmentally friendly both here in New Zealand and within the supply chain.
In our office and distribution centre we are working to increase our use of recycled options and reduce our emissions and in our product selection we are constantly looking for innovative and environmentally sustainable materials.
For our home textiles range Flax linen is our signature fabric – It is a natural fibre with a unique texture and as well as being beautiful it’s also strong and durable ensuring that it lasts.
Our Forward View
As Onceit evolves we recognise we still have lots to do but over the next 12 months we will be making progress through these and other initiatives. Our commitment is to be transparent and continue to share more details with you as we look to drive positive change and improve with each new collection.
